    • Yes, it is wide at Liverpool. The first crossing is at Runcorn some 10 miles upstream.
      Mind you the ferries only run at peak times now. They have been largely superceeded by 2 road and one rail tunnel. So they mainly run as a tourist attraction during the day. When I lived in Liverpool (many years ago when I was at University there) there were regular services “over the water” to both Birkenhead and Wallasey. But that stopped quite a few years ago so they only run a limited service now during the morning and evening peak commuter times.
