I’ve just had to spend a few days in hospital in Liverpool. Fortunately it was only a minor procedure, but as it took place on a Friday I ended up having to spend the weekend there. At least there was a decent view out of the window of both Liverpool Cathedrals and the University precinct – including the Victoria building clock tower (the above picture is, however, heavily cropped!).
I went to University in Liverpool and as the precinct overlooks the hospital I saw the building being constructed as it was opened in 1978 – the year I graduated. Its scandalous to think that after only 30 years it is a very poor state of repair and is to be knocked down and replaced by a new building that will be constructed on adjacent land. Mind you, it is an ugly concrete monstrosity – bad even for the 1970’s.
